Abstract In the anthropology of Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA), there is an effort underway to decolonize field. This process taking shape in academic writing, institutions, field practices, among broader publics. It must arise from priorities region; it also builds on wider scholarship race, indigeneity, militarism. requires expansion bounds politics, consideration who can participate, reconsideration what goals political action are. entails working toward liberations that are always plural. Decolonizing SWANA faces distinct challenges field, university, publication processes because scholars produce critiques expose contemporary colonialisms, including those related long war terror, Israeli settler colonialism, other colonialisms region. Thus, equip themselves with tools confront transform institutions. Collaborative research designed change be important part decolonizing anthropology, but such not possible across all settings.
